BTS’ ‘Butter’ One of Best-Selling Singles in the World in 2021 – Is it #1?
In March of last year, BTS made history as the second Korean artist to rank on IFPI’s Global Digital Single Chart following PSY, who entered the list at No. 3 with “Gangnam Style” in 2013. Their mega-hit song “Dynamite,” placed No. 10.

IFPI Names THIS BTS Song One of World’s Best-Selling Singles in 2021
The Global Digital Singles Chart, which IFPI releases annually, ranks the best-selling songs worldwide based on music downloads and music streams.

On March 1, IFPI officially announced on its Twitter account that BTS had landed on the 2021 Global Digital Single Chart with their second English-language song “Butter.” This “catchy summery track” ranked No. 4, meaning it is the fourth best-selling single in 2022.

The other songs in the top 5, in order, are The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears,” The Kid LAROI, Justin Bieber’s “Stay,” Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License.”
Top 6 to 10, in order, went to Justin Bieber’s “Peaches” (featuring Daniel Caesar, Giveon), The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u,” LIL NAS X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name), and Ed Sheeran’s “Bad Habits.”

As several news outlets noted, BTS has become the first Korean artist to make the Top 10 of the IFPI Global Digital Singles Chart for two years in a row.

In June of last year, BTS’ “Butter” was making records on Billboard global charts, demonstrating its worldwide popularity. It ranked first on both Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US with the highest weekly worldwide streams and sales since the two charts were launched in September 2020.

IFPI Names THIS BTS Song One of World’s Best-Selling Singles in 2021
“Butter” soared to the top of Billboard Global 200 with a whopping 289.2 million streams and 249,000 sales around the world in the May 21-27 tracking week.
On the Billboard Global Excl. US, the song debuted at No. 1 with a record-breaking 257.4 million streams and 146,200 sales in the territories outside of the United States in the same tracking period.

BTS Becomes First Foreign Artist to Earn THIS Certification From RIAJ
On Feb. 28, the Recording Industry Association of Japan announced the newest batch of songs that were given certifications last January 2022. One of the tracks is BTS’ “Dynamite” which officially earned a diamond certification in the streaming category.
A song is certified gold once it reaches 500 million streams. “Dynamite” hit this mark in less than two years since its release in August 2020.

BTS Becomes First Foreign Artist to Earn THIS Certification From RIAJ
With this, BTS becomes the first foreign artist to ever receive a diamond certification for streaming in Japan. They have also become the second act in RIAJ history to achieve this, following Japanese duo Yoasobi who earned the honor with their 2019 song “Yoru ni Kakeru” last year.
Additionally, BTS has received a platinum certification for “Life Goes On” after surpassing 100 million streams, as well as gold certification for “Anpanman” after hitting 50 million streams.
